REQUIREMENTS
Identification : A 1:10 aqueous solution gives positive tests
for Potassium and for Carbonate, Appendix IIIA.
Assay : Not less than 99.0% and not more than 100.5% of
K2CO3 after drying.
Insoluble Substances : Passes test.
Lead : Not more than 2 mg/kg.
Loss on Drying : Anhydrous: Not more than 1%; Hydrated:
Between 10.0% and 16.5%.
Potassium Carbonate Uses
Potassium carbonate can be used in glass, printing and dyeing, soap, enamel, preparation of potassium salts, synthetic ammonia decarbonylation, also used in the color television industry, mainly used in food as a bulking agent.
It is mainly used for analytical reagents. Such as high purity analysis, emission spectrum analysis and so on. It can also be used in silicate and insoluble sulfate flux, organic liquid absorbent and electroplating, fertilizer, photography industry.
Used in glass, printing and dyeing, soap, enamel, preparation of potassium salts, synthetic ammonia decarbonylation, color television industry, food as a bulking agent; as gas adsorbent, dry powder fire extinguishing agent, rubber antioxidant, etc. for exposure of the photosensitive material processing.
It is used in the manufacture of picture tube glass shell in electronic industry, decarbonization in fertilizer production, potassium salt manufacture, analytical reagent and flux, as well as the preparation of various potassium salts, analytical reagent, reference reagent, molten silicate and insoluble sulfate flux.
Desiccant in chemical experiments. Its water absorption capacity is moderate, can form potassium carbonate with two crystalline water (K2CO3. 2H2O), but with water action is slower. It is suitable for drying neutral organic compounds such as alcohols and esters, as well as ordinary alkaline organic compounds such as amines and alkaloids. But it can not be used as a desiccant for acids, phenols or other acidic substances.
Alkali and dough improver, and can inhibit the acidity of noodles, can be used for noodle food, according to the production needs of appropriate use. It can improve the transparency, intensity and refraction coefficient of glass.
